My name is Allison Plummer, and I am an architectural engineering student at Missouri University of Science and Technology. It wasn't until just recently when my friend was killed by her boyfriend that I realized what I want to do after college. I've always known that domestic abuse exists, but it never was real to me until she was killed. I began to deeply research the facts and statistics of domestic abuse and what I learned was startling. People are hurting and feel like they have nowhere to go.
I recently visited a shelter that has to refuse 80% of all the women and children in need of shelter...a place to live...a place to be free from abuse. I am going to help. I am in the process of putting together a student organization at Missouri S&T to help increase awareness in our community and plan to expand this to college campuses nationwide.
With the education that I receive here, my future plans are to build shelters where needed in honor of my friend to help those in a similar situation. We could really use some support right now, so if you can't give anything financially, we would appreciate your encouragement! Thanks!
